SDT WASTE AND DEBRIS WINS LSU WASTE CONTRACT

New Orleans-based Company Gains Significant Presence in Baton Rouge

Monday, June 15, 2009 - SDT Waste and Debris L.L.C., the trash contractor known for cleaning up the New Orleans French Quarter, won a major contract in the Baton Rouge area. Louisiana State University accepted SDT’s bid on the university’s Recycling and Waste Disposal contract. The contract is for one year with options to renew for an additional two years. The contract begins July 1.

The LSU contract is SDT’s first major contract in the Baton Rouge area and signals an important expansion for the company owned and operated by Sidney D. Torres, IV. The company plans on hiring a dozen new employees and will open an office in Baton Rouge, Torres said.

SDT began serving Tangipahoa Parish as its municipal waste provider in May and has been inching its way toward Baton Rouge, picking up contracts in Independence and Hammond.

“SDT could not be more excited to begin working on the LSU campus,“ Torres said. “SDT will be performing waste disposal and recycling services on the Baton Rouge campus. Our mascot is the bull – now the bull will team up with the tigers to keep LSU clean. We are also the official waste provider for the Saints and Hornets and now with LSU, the largest sporting organizations in the state.

As part of the contract, SDT will continue LSU’s ongoing recycling program on campus with pickups of cardboard, aluminum, plastic and glass twice a week.

In addition to providing municipal waste services in Orleans Parish (French Quarter and DDD), Tangipahoa, St. Bernard and St. Tammany Parishes, SDT is also the largest waste services provider to Louisiana schools with contracts to serve the Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany and St. John Parish school boards as well as the Archdiocese of New Orleans, UNO, Loyola and Delgado.

Established post-Katrina, SDT Waste and Debris Services, LLC has grown quickly and is now a major force in the waste removal services, providing curbside pickup and debris removal services for municipal, commercial and residential customers throughout South Louisiana. SDT was on display at the Waste Expo last week in Las Vegas – the largest solid waste and recycling trade show in North America. SDT showed off its newest piece of equipment – a fully automated sideloader – the first ever built by EZ Pack, a leading manufacturer. SDT personnel researched the best technologies in the industry. Sidney took time to meet with the expo board members and hopes to meet with the president of the association in coming weeks to try and lure the show to New Orleans in future years. After Katrina, the expo expressed interest in coming back to the Big Easy.
